Cordyline Australis - Torbay Palm Buy online another essential for the Mediterranean style garden, the exotic Cabbage Palm is in fact not a palm but a palm impostor. Nevertheless this majestic tree deserves a place in any exotic garden. The origin of this fast growing easy tree is New Zealand, home to so many wonderful exotic trees and shrubs. It is also sometimes referred to as the Torbay Palm and is commonly seen on the English Riviera. It is easy to maintain and seems happy in sun or semi shade. It appreciates well drained soil and periodic watering in hot dry weather. Other requirements include occasional organic feeding and removal of dead lower leaves with a sharp knife to maintain a clean trunk. This tree is suitable for the warmer parts of the country where the minimum temperature is unlikely to fall below -8c or perhaps a little lower when mature. In heavy freezes the crown and head should be protected. In the garden the Cabbage Palm looks great either planted singly or in groups and mixes well with palms, bamboos, bananas and all broadleaf evergreen trees such as magnolia grandiflora, eryobotrya japonica, fatsia japonica and laurel. Since they are so fast growing Cordyline Australis can only be considered short term for pot culture unless planted in huge tubs. Please choose by checking box and add to basket:-

| * Please note that sizes stated are very approximate and the heights of the plants sent may differ from those in the catalogue. While we try to be honest in describing the size of plants, they are, after all, living things and two plants in the same batch, ostensibly the same 'size' may be very different from each other. Additionally, photographs of palms in the catalogue are often of mature trees and obviously young plants are likely to have a rather different appearance, taking many years, for example, to form a trunk. |
