Phoenix Roebelenii - Pygmy Date Palm

This popular and easy date palm for indoor use, either in conservatory or in the home originates from Laos and SE Asia. It has softer leaflets and an altogether more graceful and delicate appearance and develops into a perfect miniature palm tree It will tolerate medium light, but prefers it bright, though indirect. Plenty of water during the summer months together with a rich and fertile soil will keep it looking wonderful. Easy and elegant.

Once all danger of frost has passed this palm will enjoy a spell through the summer on your patio or terrace. It may even tolerate a degree or two of frost once mature.

Due to its extremely exotic and tropical appearance I have several clients who keep these palms in containers around their swimming pools and then get their gardeners to bring under cover either in the house or a frost free conservatory.

When positioning keep away from young children as the petioles are armed with sharp spines.

* Please note that sizes stated are very approximate and the heights of the plants sent may differ from those in the catalogue. While we try to be honest in describing the size of plants, they are, after all, living things and two plants in the same batch, ostensibly the same 'size' may be very different from each other. Additionally, photographs of palms in the catalogue are often of mature trees and obviously young plants are likely to have a rather different appearance, taking many years, for example, to form a trunk.
